I’ve always like this quote:

“Mercy to the guilty is cruelty to the innocent”.

Adam Smith

people have been primed to feel a sense of righteousness about this mercy

There is no excuse for evil. We all have free will they know exactly what they are doing. They enjoy it. People that give forgiveness to predators are no better then the predators, they allow it. They are foolish or evil themselves.

In the 12-step programs, the magic of recovery doesn't begin until the addict makes a searching and fearless moral inventory of herself, becomes entirely ready to have God remove all her defects of character, becomes willing to make amends to all she harmed, and makes direct amends wherever possible. THOSE are the steps toward personal responsibility, and THOSE are the steps toward becoming forgivable.

Without authentic contrition from the evil-doer, there is no rationale to forgive. Fool me once....

You said this part better than I did! I love this: Without authentic contrition from the evil-doer, there is no rationale to forgive. Fool me once....

Evil should never been forgiven.

The problem with many people is that they see evil deeds as someone making a mistake.

There is a big difference between making a mistake and willingly doing evil.

There is no excuse for doing evil, period!

Unfortunately I had come across one of these evil bastards in my past. I'm 48 now happily married with 2 beautiful kids 1 is an adult now and Jack is 7 and I will never leave him alone with anyone but close family members. I hadn't spoke about the situation with anyone for decades but when I was around 40 it had come to my attention that another family member had been abused as well and had taken this pos through the courts to have justice but unfortunately it went no further apart from a payout from the government at the time . This family member never come to terms with that and even with their own kids couldn't overcome the demons and had ended the pain. No is the answer to your question can we accept evil or forgive evil. I see the system is clearly in the favour of evil just look what the authorities and the church leaders did for the likes of george pell.

I am hopeful people like this will eventually get what they deserve. I'm am always thankful I have come across your work mate I'm just working through gnosticism exposed on unslaved premium so much of what has happened in the past is why we are in this situation now and the more people look to the past and to truth these things will be dealt with by good people of the world .

Regards

Shannon

I'd be very interested in your thoughts on the idea/practice of Ho'oponopono, DW.

I am not that familiar I just know its a Hawaiian thing. As long as justice is served, victims are taken care of and contrition is demonstrated, then we can talk forgiveness.

The story that is often cited illustrating the power of Ho’oponopono is that of Dr Hew Lin. Excerpted from the article linked below describes the essence of the practice.

"Ho’oponopono is the process where we say to The Divine: “I love you” (unification), “I’m sorry” (repentance), “Please forgive me” (forgiveness), and “Thank you” (transmutation).

When he asked what caused the patients to change, his simple answer is always “I was simply healing the part of me that created them.” He believed that total responsibility for your life means that everything in your life – simply because it is in your life – is your responsibility. In a literal sense the entire world is your creation. If you take complete responsibility for your life, then everything you see, hear, taste, touch, or in any way experience is your responsibility because it is in your life."

This seems like a fairly radical departure from how we'd normally understand or relate to our concepts of cause and effect, right and wrong, justice, etc. I just wonder if the two frameworks can work cohesively together somehow or if they're just too fundamentally different.

To be an honest determinant adherent. I would also have no control over my desire for justice and hence what punishments happen to criminals.

They always avoid the other side of the equation. I think because it becomes a mundane revelation

I was a child

Between 6-8

I lived in the city of Chicago

And my mom and I were on the bus going home

It was a hot summer day

At a stop, a little old lady got on the bus and she stayed up in front

It didn't take long for the "smell"

I looked around and saw poop

All on this lady's legs

I felt so sad for her

I felt her embarrassment and that she just wanted to go home

When the bus driver asked her to get off

I KNEW this place could be CRUEL

As a child, I wanted to help her

Hug her

Yet when she got off the bus

I was angry that no one stood up for her and I was even angry at her for not standing up for herself ......

This place.........🤯🤪

It’s more of the wolf in sheep’s clothing isn’t it? It’s everywhere.. memes like that are couched in reasonableness until you unpack it and most people don’t.

Spiritual teachers say NOT to judge. They make judging a BAD thing to do and say you who judge have LOW consciousness. And worse if you call out someone who committed evil and don't forgive them you have put another nail in them and help crucify them to the cross. Some of them even say there is NO SUCH THING as good vs. evil and even Hitler went to Heaven. I agree completely with your stand on evil and NOT the Spiritual teachers. It's NOT just kids who are experiencing evil adults lives matter too who experience evil. Too much emphasis on children experiencing it is NOT the road to go on.
